Our Heritage

Established June 21, 1885 as the first Lutheran Congregation in the great black swamp area. The congregation was organized by the Rev. Geo. W. Hueter with seven immigrant families from the province of Hannover Germany.

Worship services were held in the homes of German immigrants in Deshler beginning in 1883. They organized as Peace Lutheran Church in 1885. A lot Church was constructed in 1888. This was replaced by a wood-framed church in 1902, which was moved to its present location in 1952. At that time additions were made to the front and back of the building. This congregation helped establish Grace in Weston Ohio in1956. In the late 1960s, Peace with Drew membership from the LCMS. Having been served by ELS Pastors since 1992, Peace voted to formally join the Evangelical Lutheran Synod in 2016.
